VIDEO TUTORIAL: How to use Proximity Voice Chat in Minecraft!
To use proximity voice chat on our server, you will need to install the Simple Voice Chat mod. This can be used with either Forge (1.12.2+) or Fabric clients (1.16.5+). Using MC version 1.20.6+ is highly recommended for the best compatibility. The following tutorial will be for Windows. A macOS version will be posted very soon!
Getting the Mod
Start off heading over to the dev’s CurseForge or Modrinth page to the mod. When downloading, make sure the mod version matches BOTH the Minecraft client version/type AND the server’s voice chat mod version (as of writing, it is currently 2.5.20 on VCMC, newer versions should work fine too).
Installing the Mod
Before installing the mod, make sure you’ve already launched Minecraft with Forge or Fabric. Then, take the mod .jar file and move it to “%appdata%\.minecraft\mods” (use Windows Key + R to type in that directory without quotes). If there is no mods folder, ensure that you’ve fully launched Fabric/Forge before trying again.
Once the mod (and any other mod you wish to use) is in the folder, restart the game and now it will be installed!
Using the Mod
The mod will work on any multiplayer server with the mod installed server-side. When you are in the game, press “v” to adjust the settings to your liking (i.e. vc and mic volume, player volumes, selecting your speaker and/or mic, etc.). You can also switch between the default “Push to Talk” and “Voice Activation” vc modes. To change the “push to talk” key or other keys, check the Minecraft keybind settings (scroll down to the bottom).
